Kidznotes and PitchBlak at the Durham Food Truck Rodeo Mar. 9th

DCP-FTR-2014-03-09-SlideThe Spring Food Truck Rodeo features Brooklyn’s PitchBlak Brass Band in Durham Central Park, a downtown destination for outdoor recreation, relaxation and cultural events, presents their Spring Food Truck Rodeo, Sunday, March 9. The “Rodeo” is a gathering of more than 40 of the Triangle’s most popular food trucks, under Durham Central Park’s Pavilion and along Foster Street, from noon to 4 p.m. PitchBlak Brass Band, a Brooklyn-based 10-piece band who fuses hip hop and New Orleans Second Line, will give a free concert at noon.

A collective of young musicians, composers and artists, PitchBlak embodies the contemporary and vibrant undercurrents of America. Members have incredibly diverse musical backgrounds, allowing them to infuse hip-hop driven music with funk, rock, jazz and classical genres, rich brass harmonies, lyrical hooks, tongue-twisting raps, and rhythms that make your blood race. The classically-trained tubaist Chanell Crichlow founded the band in 2010.

This is the original food truck rodeo of the Triangle–an event that helped start the food truck craze. It is free to attend. You simply pay for what you decide to eat from the trucks’ menus–from savory and stick-to-your-ribs to sweet treats. Registered trucks include Café Bang Bang Banh Mi, Barone Meatball Company and Baton Rouge Cuisine Café. Multiple beer tents such as Fullsteam will be pulling down the In addition to food, beer and music, Keep Durham Beautiful will be giving out several varieties of free tree seedlings in celebration of upcoming Arbor Day. First time green thumb? Master Gardeners will be on hand at their tent to provide education about the trees and how to take care of them. Durham’s Kidznotes will also present a musical showcase and instrument zoo at the Leaf so that kids can try out lots of different instruments.

Dogs are allowed at the Food Truck Rodeo on regular (not retractable) leashes. The Food Truck Rodeo is rain or shine. Most trucks accept credit cards but an ATM machine is on site as well. Free parking is available in nearby lots. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair so that you can enjoy a relaxing and enjoyable Durham afternoon with friends and family.
