Jillian Storey

1st year Teaching Artist

Jillian Storey is a flutist, educator, and creative living in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her passion is creating educational and performance spaces that are inclusive, community-driven, participatory, and that focus more on experiences than singular performances. This was inspired by her doctoral research, “Social Practice Methods in the Applied Flute Studio.”

An active performer, Jillian can regularly be heard performing with her chamber ensemble, Catchfire Collective. As a founding member she also serves as the ensembles Director of Marketing, Operations, and Bookings. In addition she has played in various orchestras and pit orchestras in the Triangle, Texas, and Tennessee.

Jillian is dedicated to service and is the current Newsletter Editor for the Marcel Moyse Society. She is also involved with various committees for the National Flute Association. She previously spearheaded the creation of flute clubs at all three of her collegiate institutions.

She holds a DMA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a MM from Baylor University, and a BM from Tennessee Technological University. Additionally, she spent a year studying in Kent, England with renowned pedagogue Trevor Wye. Her primary teachers include Erika Boysen, Francesca Arnone, Trevor Wye, and Roger Martin.
