Tokay Allen is a National Board Certified Teacher for Durham Public Schools at Spring Valley Elementary with 24 years of teaching experience. She was born and raised in Durham NC, and attended North Carolina Central University (EAGLE PRIDE!) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education, with a Concentration in Piano Performance in 1998. She also earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Music Education from Towson University (Towson, Maryland) in 2004. Specializing in General Music K-5. Tokay uses her knowledge and experience to create a safe and welcome space where meaningful music learning can take place.

Tokay is actually a returning Kidznotes Mozart Teacher; she first joined the program when Kidznotes was founded in 2010 with 60 students at 3 Title-1 Schools in Durham. A motto she tries to live by each day is to “Always Be A Rainbow In Someone Else’s Cloud”- Maya Angelou. Tokay may spend her days at Spring Valley, but when she’s not making music with her students, she LOVES spending time with her life partner, Eric and 4 bonus children, cuddling with her cat (Lucy), cooking, reading, laughing at a good joke, satisfying her sweet tooth from time to time, exercising and playing the piano!
